Following reports that Obi, the Labour Party's (LP) presidential candidate, would be his running mate, Kwankwaso lashed out on Monday.
"Many people proposed that," the former governor of Kano State stated on Channels Television's Politics Today (for Peter Obi to be my running mate). I believe it would have been conceivable if he hadn't joined another political party and is now a candidate, as we've seen in the headlines recently. We're excited to see what occurs in the coming days or weeks."
"Actually, we had the opportunity to discuss to ourselves on many national matters till a few days before he declared for the Labour Party, of which he is currently the presidential candidate," Kwankwaso continued.
"We aren't there yet," Kwankwaso remarked when asked if the NNPP would consider picking his running mate from the South East. The party will sit down after the convention and look around to see if we can find a very good, credible individual with capacity."
After some of the other contenders dropped out, Obi emerged as the LP's flagbearer.
The 60-year-old won a close race against Olushola Emmanuel-Tella, the lone candidate who refused to step aside.
