Ex-Zamfara Governor Yari has been arrested by the EFCC for a N84 billion Accountant-General fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, on Sunday in connection with the investigation of Ahmed Idris, the suspended Accountant-General of the Federation, who is accused of diverting over N80 billion.

From 2007 to 2019, Yari was the governor of Zamfara State.

Yari was arrested at his Abuja apartment at 5 p.m., according to a senior EFCC official who spoke to our correspondent over the phone.

"Our detectives arrested Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, and Anthony Yaro, chairman and managing director of Finex Professional, for their alleged complicity in a N84 billion scam involving the former Accountant General of the Federation," according to the source.

"Our inquiry is still underway," the officer responded when asked if Yari will be released last night. He needs to assist us in getting to the bottom of the problem."

Wilson Uwujaren, an EFCC spokesman, acknowledged Yari's detention but failed to say further when the Daily Trust pressed him.

The embattled accountant-general, who has been detained by the EFCC since May 16, had been placed on indefinite leave.
