During the attack, the gunmen killed two troops, according to a local resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The burned building was also visible in videos and photos circulating online, as were vehicles parked inside the local government secretariat.
The state police command verified the incident and blamed it on unknown arsonists.
"Yes, the incident was confirmed," state police spokesperson DSP Toochukwu Ikenga said. "Our men have been drafted there to restore normalcy."
"Right now, the fire has been out, and the region has returned to normal," Ikenga added.
He also revealed that military soldiers, Nkwelle Ezunaka, were attacked near Onitsha, but that no one was killed.
