Takai LGA in Kano South is around 80 kilometres from Kano city and borders numerous Jigawa State cities. On Sunday evening, gunmen stormed the village and kidnapped the village chief, who is 53 years old.

They were claimed to have arrived on three motorcycles from Bauchi State via Jigawa State's Ringim Forest and were on their way out of the hamlet when the villagers mobilised and pursued them in order to save their leader.

The gunman allegedly turned around and opened fire on the following group, killing nine people, six of whom have been confirmed dead so far, while the other three are claimed to be responding to treatment.

The police spokesman in Kano, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the occurrence and said a team of operatives had been despatched to the area with the purpose of rescuing the abducted village head and apprehending the culprits.
