Two young boys, Lukman and Kudus, from the Adifa and Cente Igboro parts of Ilorin, were stabbed to death by a group of youngsters led by one Habeeb Ganiyu of the Agbarere neighbourhood of Ilorin, according to the police.
The two youngsters were stabbed in the chest multiple times and died before reaching the hospital.
According to a statement signed by Ajayi Okasanmi, the Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Police Command, the cause of the disagreement between the two groups is still unknown, but detectives have been dispatched to track down the hoodlums who fled the scene immediately after committing the crime.
"(The) Kwara State Police Command is concerned over the report of two young boys names Lukman and Kudus being killed in the Adifa and Cente Igboro districts of Ilorin," Okasanmi stated.
A group of boys led by Habeeb Ganiyu'm' of Ilorin's Agbarere district stabbed the dead numerous times in the chest. Men from the Oja Oba Police Station responded to the distress call and took the victims to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. The deceased were pronounced dead by the on-duty doctors as soon as they arrived at UITH.
"One Habeeb Ganiyu'm,' who was also critically injured, was apprehended as the leader of the group that carried out the attack.
"The immediate/remote cause(s) of the deadly attack remain unknown.
"However, the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Police Command, CP Tuesday Assayomo psc, has ordered a discreet investigation into the matter, deploying strategies that will lead to the arrest of the fleeing attackers, adding that anyone found to have contributed to the ugly process that resulted in the deaths of the victims will be arrested and made to bear the full weight of the law," he said.
"The Commissioner of Police assures the people of the area in particular and Kwara State in general of their safety and security at all times," the statement said. "Lawbreakers are advised to leave Kwara State, as anyone arrested for committing any crime will be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land."
