The EU has agreed to impose a partial restriction on Russian oil imports.
In the midst of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the European Union (EU) has agreed to impose a partial restriction on Russian oil imports.

Charles Michel, the head of the European Council, revealed this.

On Monday evening, Michel announced the news in a tweet on his Twitter account.

"Agreement to prohibit Russian oil exports to the European Union." This immediately covers more than two-thirds of Russia's oil imports, severing a major source of funding for the country's war machine," Michel explained.

Michel's declaration came after an unusual European Council meeting in Brussels on Monday, where EU leaders discussed the sixth package of sanctions against Russia.

"Other tough steps in this sanctions package include de-Swifting Russia's largest bank, Sberbank, barring three more Russian state-owned channels, and penalising individuals involved in war crimes in Ukraine," Michel added.

On Tuesday, EU leaders will gather in Brussels to debate the EU's response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
