Remember that eleven Northern governors sponsored a Southern President for the 2023 election and urged their Northern brothers who are still in the race to drop out.
"Following careful discussion, we desire to announce our firm opinion that, after President Muhammadu Buhari's eight years in government, the APC presidential candidate for the 2023 elections should be one of our teeming members from Nigeria's southern states," they stated in a statement. For the APC, it is a matter of honour, a commitment that is unaffected by the decisions of another political party. We believe that adhering to this ideal will help us develop a stronger, more cohesive, and more progressive country.

In response to this development, the Northern Interests Coalition issued a statement titled "2023 Presidency: The North rejects governors betraying the North," in which its Chairman, Malam Umar Faruq Gazali, stated that the governors have banded together to pressure the president to endorse their self-serving agenda.
The organisation advised President Muhammadu Buhari to not only ignore them, but also to refuse to be perplexed by the North's traitors.
"It has come to our attention that several Northern governors, motivated by their desire to become Vice President, have agreed to encourage President Muhammadu Buhari to back a Southern presidential candidate for the APC," the statement adds. This is a clear attack on Northern interests, and these governors must be halted as soon as possible. After the South gained control, it produced a president for 14 years and a vice president for 11 years, for a total of 25 years. It is not only unjust, but also unreasonable, that our governors will conspire against the North in order for Buhari to relinquish power after only eight years in office. These governors have banded together to put pressure on the president to support their self-serving agenda tonight.
"The North rejects them and their nefarious aims, and we will stand firm against them." The only thing we ask is that the governors who are supposedly involved in this nefarious conspiracy cease and desist immediately. Governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Sule Abdullahi of Nasarawa, Babagana Zulu of Borno, Governor Masari of Katsina, Governor Ganduje of Kano, Governor Lalong of Plateau, Abubakar Sanni Bello of Niger, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, Aliyu Wamako of Sokoto, and Ab
"The president must not only disregard them, but also refuse to be perplexed by these North's traitors." These eleven Northern Governors have betrayed the North for their own selfish purposes, and we condemn their actions in the strongest terms possible, urging the president to entirely ignore them." This isn't merely a claim. The declaration released and signed by these eleven traitors to Northern interests in this regard is in the public domain, proposing to the president that the search for his successor be limited to the South. This is undemocratic and detrimental to the interests of the North, and it must be stopped."
