APC Northern Governors Insist: We Will Support Southern Presidential Candidate

The governors of the north who were elected on the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket have said that they will support a southerner if the ruling party's presidential candidate in the 2023 elections is from the south.

Simon Lalong, governor of Plateau State and head of the Northern Governors Forum, told State House correspondents in Abuja on Monday this was the case.

After meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in the Federal Capital Territory, 13 governors made their opinions known (FCT).

In his briefing, Governor Lalong made it clear that the leaked memo that went viral last Saturday was the true position of the northern governors, and that they had come to the President to talk about it.

The governor said that President Buhari has not chosen any of the 23 candidates who are expected to run in the APC's primary as the party's candidate.

He said that, instead, the President had asked the governors to meet with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to find a democratic way to agree on a consensus candidate.
