An improvised explosive device (IED) constructed by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), exploded, injuring its members, according to the Nigerian Army.

Two members of the outlawed gang were severely injured by the exploding IED.

This was stated by Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director, Army Public Relations, in an Enugu statement on Thursday.

The incident happened on June 1 along Eke Ututu-Orsu Road in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo, according to Nwachukwu.

"While seeking to dodge forces' onslaught on terrorists in the area, the dissidents inadvertently trod on the IED that they had earlier hidden along multiple routes in Orlu, Orsu Local Government Area," he claimed.

In an unsuccessful attempt to injure the troops, the proscribed group has planted IEDs along patrol routes.

"We implore all peace-loving individuals in the Southeast to please notify troops of any potential sites where these bombs have been buried so that they can be properly evacuated and disposed of." (NAN)
