Maj-Gen. Uwem Bassey, the Force Commander of Operation Hadarin Daji, gave the figure when the weapons were handed over to the North West National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) in Sokoto.
The firearms were collected from different clearance operations in the four states, according to Bassey, the General Officer Commanding, 8 Division, Nigeria Army, Sokoto.
He explained that the operations were intended to clear the North-Western states of bandits and other criminal elements.
"Others include one light machine gun, four FN rifles, 410 dane guns, 71 locally produced handguns, one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), one empty canister, and one pump action," he claimed.
Citizens who consistently gave credible information that contributed to the successful retrieval of the weapons were commended by the operation commander.
He asked for further information so that troops could put an end to the threat, adding that "security is everyone's business."
Bassey went on to say that journalists should always keep national security in mind when doing their work.
The Zonal Coordinator, NCCSALW, retired AVM Haruna Mohammed, thanked the troops for their efforts and advised them to keep up the pace in order to effectively combat criminal activity.
"I encourage you all to push harder to ensure that we recover all firearms from society, knowing that we are approaching election season and we want everyone to be on the same page."
"I am optimistic that more weapons will be recovered from criminal elements as the general public and military continue to work together to combat the illegal possession of firearms," he said.
