Bandits targeted intending pilgrims from the Isa Local Government Area on their way to Sokoto yesterday.

The pilgrims were scheduled to leave for the Holy Land at 7:30 a.m. today, Tuesday.

The robbers were alleged to have ambushed their caravan along Gundumi forest, but the attack was thwarted by their security guards.

Malam Sirajo, a local of Isa town who confirmed the occurrence to our reporter, said the prospective pilgrims were unharmed and that some of them were taken back to Sarkin Gobir Isa's palace.

"They attacked their caravan, which was escorted by security personnel who were claimed to have engaged the robbers for many minutes."

"We learned that some of the operators were injured, but I can't confirm that," Sirajo continued.

Shehu Muhammad Dange, the Permanent Secretary of the Sokoto State Scholarship Board, confirmed the attack but claimed he wasn't sure if there was any case of kidnapping.

"We have 21 pilgrims from Isa who are planning to come." "However, we have yet to determine their status," he added.

When reached, ASP Ahmad Rufa'i, the acting Public Relations Officer of the Sokoto State Police Command, stated he was unaware about the attack.
