Blasphemy - How almost 200 Muslims in Abuja lynched a man after an altercation with an imam — Police

Ahmad Usman, a member of a vigilante group, was lynched in Abuja for alleged blasphemy against Islam, according to the Federal Capital Territory police command.

The victim was tortured and burned alive by Muslim youngsters who claimed he made a disrespectful remark about their faith, according to the DAILY POST.

According to a statement released by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh, the attack was sparked by a disagreement with one of the area's Imams.

According to her, the heated dispute developed into a rash of violence, culminating in the assassination and burning of Ahmad Usman by an irate crowd of roughly 200 clergy members.

Upon receiving this information, a quick intervention team comprised of the Command's Surveillance and Ambush team assigned to the Gwagwalada Divisional Police Headquarters was dispatched to the scene, where the inflamed victim was rescued with severe burns and taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on call.

Normalcy has been restored to the situation, and the region is still being monitored and surveilled.

Residents are advised to go about their legitimate business without fear or apprehension from any quarters, as a discreet investigation proceeds to unearth the facts underlying the heinous crime and secure the arrest of those responsible.

While warning against the indiscriminate act of self-help in getting justice known as Jungle justice, Commissioner of Police CP Babaji Sunday psc emphasised that "appropriate sanctions will be meted out to subscribers of this crude and wicked crime."
