Petr Cech, Chelsea's technical director, believes Romelu Lukaku will have a successful season at Stamford Bridge next season.

Despite heavy speculation linking Lukaku with a return to Inter Milan, Cech expressed his "complete confidence" in the Belgian. Lukaku struggled last season at Chelsea and Cech expressed his "complete confidence" in him.

Lukaku joined Chelsea for a club-record £98 million last summer, but the Belgium international has struggled to live up to expectations, scoring just eight times in the Premier League last season and falling out with manager Thomas Tuchel.

"I believe he'll have a fantastic season," Cech told Football Daily.

"When he came last season, we realised how strong he can be." Unfortunately, the long-term injury he suffered versus [Aston] Villa slowed things down, and he eventually developed COVID.

“We could see how strong he is near the conclusion of the season when he was fit and ready to play. Around Christmas, we experienced a very bad run of COVID problems. He was one of the players who was impacted.

"I'm confident he'll bounce back and have a successful season."
