On Thursday, June 2, the infant was discovered naked on a rock with his placenta still attached.
A social worker in the region told journalists on Friday, June 3 that the baby was discovered by local neighbours who are now caring for him.
She stated" "A newborn baby boy was abandoned in Sarkin Kudu, according to a report received by our office yesterday (Thursday). The newborn infant had been taken up by one of the local ladies who had begun caring for him before we arrived.
"He is now in terrific health and is doing well. We've also contacted the security officers, and an investigation is underway to locate the baby's mother."
The social worker thanked the residents of the area and the woman who found and cared for the baby, and urged the baby's mother to come claim her newborn child, noting that the local government's social welfare office would continue to look after the baby until the investigation was completed and the baby's mother was found.
PPRO of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the occurrence, saying that some farmers had reported the incident to a police station in the region.
"On their way to the farm yesterday, June 2nd, 2022, at about 8.30 a.m., three good samaritans went to the Bogoro Divisional Police Headquarters and reported that they saw an abandoned infant wailing in an unfinished building," he stated.
The DPO and his team of policemen and men arrived on the location shortly after receiving the complaint and transported the abandoned baby to the Bogoro General Hospital for medical attention."
The baby was given over to the Bogoro Local Government Area's Social Welfare Department after the medical doctors determined that it was healthy.
"An investigation has begun and will be widened in order to learn why the baby's mother abandoned the child in that manner."
