In Benue, gunmen kidnap a priest's cook.


Gunmen are said to have kidnapped a chef from the home of a Catholic priest in Aho, Ogbadibo LGA, Benue State.

Residents told news crews that gunmen stormed into the home of the priest in charge of St Mary Immaculate Church in Aho village on Saturday night and took the female cook with them.

Samuel Onu, the Chairman of the Ogbadigbo Local Government Area (LGA), confirmed the incident to journalists in Makurdi.

"Yes, there was an incident yesterday evening (Saturday), several individuals came and took away the priest's chef," he claimed.

The incident has been reported to the police, and the atmosphere in the neighbourhood has calmed down now that army officials from a nearby checkpoint have arrived."

Meanwhile, SP Catherine Anene, a spokesman for the Benue State Police Command, said she had yet to receive details regarding the event.
