Following the event, the injured were transported to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Sharada Industrial Hospital, and Ja'en Hospital for immediate medical attention.
The cylinder chemical explosion occurred on Friday about 4:00pm at Sharada Industrial Area, according to Nuradeen Abdullahi, the Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency in Kano, who confirmed the occurrence on Saturday.
"The victims were suffocated and unconscious," he continued.
The victims fainted and went unconscious after inhaling hazardous compounds from a cylinder demolished by some metal scrappers, according to a source.
The chemicals in the cylinder escaped into the air, causing individuals who inhaled it to go unconscious, according to the Territorial Coordinator.
Dr. Hussaini Muhammad, the Chief Medical Director of Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, said the hospital had received over 70 patients, 65 of whom were stable.
Thirty-five casualties were treated at Sharada Industrial Hospital, while 96 were treated at Ja'en Hospital, according to him.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Faruk, had paid a visit to the victims at the hospital to assess their situation.
Dr Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, the Permanent Secretary for Humanitarian Affairs, was her representative.
She praised the hospital administrations, as well as NEMA, SEMA, and the Nigerian Red Cross, for their quick response and assistance to the victims during the crisis.
She assured the victims that the ministry will assist them.
