The defendant allegedly raped the victim, took her money, put her back in the tricycle, and was driving her to an unknown destination when he was apprehended.
SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday.
Oyeyemi stated that the suspect was apprehended around 4 a.m. on Monday after police received a distress call from the Ifo divisional headquarters.
The woman, who boarded the tricycle from Iyana Coker in Ifo, raised the alarm that the tricycle operator was bringing her to an unknown location, according to the PPRO.
"Upon receiving the distress call, CSP Kehinde Kuranga, DPO, Ifo division, instantly led his patrol squad to the spot, where the culprit was subsequently detained," he added.
During questioning, the victim told police that she took a tricycle from Pakoto Bus-Stop to Iyana Coker, but the suspect suddenly pulled out a locally-made pistol and threatened to shoot her if she didn't cooperate.
She went on to say that the suspect took her to Olose Primary School in Ifo and raped her at gunpoint. "After raping her, the suspect also took her money before putting her back in the tricycle and driving away."
However, when she arrived at the Aritameje region, she noticed some individuals and raised the alarm, which resulted in the suspect's arrest. The suspect admitted his guilt.
"He was found with a bike and a locally produced pistol."
