Lucky Igbinedion's mother, the housemaid who killed the ex-governor, was condemned to death by hanging.

Dominion Okoro, the housemaid of late Madam Maria Igbinedion, mother of ex-governor of Edo state, Lucky Igbinedion, was sentenced to death by hanging by Justice Efe Ikponmwonba of the Criminal Court 1 in Benin city, Edo state, for killing the 85-year-old woman at her residence in GRA Benin City on December 2 2021, before fleeing with her jewellery.

Okoro, who had been the deceased's housemaid for years, killed her because she wanted to take her money and personal belongings. Okoro claimed her late boss never insulted her when she was detained.

"I murdered Mama (Madam Maria Igbinedion) in order to transport her money." She did not offend me in any way. I hit her on the head with a stool while she was sleeping in her bed at 12:01 a.m. on December 2, 2021, and she screamed for help, but only the gateman was present and did not hear her. Mama passed away later.

On December 2, 2021, I waited until 4 a.m. before leaving the house with Mama's N100,000, wristwatch, and jewellery. I managed to flee to Cross River State, but I was apprehended by the police later."

Dominion and her sister were arrested after her confessing testimony. Patience Okoro, her sister, was charged in court.

On Monday, June 20, Justice Ipkonwonba handed down her decision in the case, finding Dominion guilty of all three charges brought against her. Dominion was condemned to death by hanging for murder and robbery with violence, while count two, for putting hazardous drugs to the late Madam Igbinedion, received a life sentence.

The convict's sister was acquitted after being charged with accessory after the fact for murder in count four.
