Ondo Catholic Church Bombed; Worshippers Killed

An explosion struck the St. Francis Catholic Church on Owa-luwa Street in the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, killing numerous worshippers.

At the time of this report, details of the occurrence were vague, but a source ascribed it to a terrorist attack, stating that the perpetrators opened fire on worshippers.

The place of worship is near to the residence of Olowo of Owo. Owo is Governor Rotimi Akeredolu's hometown.

Officer of Police Public Relations in Ondo, Funmilayo Odunlami, acknowledged the event and stated that an inquiry was ongoing.

According to Daily Trust, Akeredolu has visited the site of the attack, which appears to be the latest in a recurrence of bombings.

Several pubs have been targeted in Kogi State, mainly in Kabba Local Government Area, over the past four weeks.

Islamic State claimed credit for the attack in Kogi.

Last month, the militants also assaulted a pleasure location in the state of Yobe.

In all geopolitical zones, Nigeria is suffering security problems.
