Musa Maje, a suspected social media fraudster, was detained by the Kano State Police Command on Sunday.
According to SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the state police spokeswoman, a manhunt for the offender was initiated after public outcry over his actions.
"One Zahra Mansur, 20, also stated that she received phone calls from her close friends alleging that someone had exploited her identity, photos, and videos to construct Facebook accounts, scamming unsuspecting members of the public," according to the statement.
Sama'ila Dikko, the state Commissioner of Police, is claimed to have ordered a team of detectives, commanded by SP Shehu Dahiru, to apprehend the perpetrator.
"Sustained efforts and intelligence-led follow-ups resulted in the arrest of the suspect, Musa Lurwanu Maje, 26, also known as Musa L Maje on social media.
The suspect was apprehended with a Redmi Note 11 Pro smartphone worth N200,000, as well as other accessories purchased with the proceeds of fraud. He was also found to have N70,000 in his possession, as well as naked images and videos of the victims.
"He claimed to have constructed a phoney Zahra Mansur Facebook account and exploited her photos and videos to scam people without her permission." He also admitted to deceiving several people and obtaining their nude photographs and videos, and threatened to blackmail them if they did not provide money to him," according to the statement.
