One of the leaders of the gunmen terrorising Anambra State was slain by security operatives, who also detained five other gang members.

In the Anaocha Local Government Area of the state, they also rescued four kidnapped victims in Neni town.

In Awka yesterday, the state police command's spokesman, Ikenga Tochukwu, said police operatives working with local vigilantes attacked the spot on Sunday, freed the four victims, and detained one Emeka, a suspect.

According to Ikenga, Emeka confessed to the crime after being interrogated and led detectives to his gang's hideaway in Oba, where the detectives engaged the criminals in a shootout.

He said that the gang's leader, Chinedu Ajogu, was killed, and that five others were captured, including their native doctor.
