On Tuesday, youths from several locations of Port Harcourt prevented officers from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting Siminialayi Fubara, the Peoples Democratic Party's governorship candidate in Rivers State for the 2023 general elections.

The scene unfolded as the jet carrying Fubara and other PDP chieftains to Abuja to get his certificate of return touched down at the Port Harcourt International Airport.

It was said that as the agents proceeded to make the arrest, some youngsters thought to be his fans allegedly fought back.

The EFCC has proclaimed Fubara, the immediate past accountant general of Rivers, and three other top state government officials wanted in connection with an alleged N117 billion scam, according to INFOGONG.

Following the airport drama, Fubara went to the state party secretariat to address party supporters and stakeholders.

The EFCC's Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, responded to the attack by confirming that EFCC officers from the Port Harcourt Zonal Command were unable to apprehend Fubara.

Armed thugs, he claimed, assaulted commission officers who shown great restraint in the face of intense provocation.

He denounced the "blatant attempt to obstruct justice" and warned that the commission's civility should not be taken for granted.
