They were transported to Imo Specialist Hospital in Umuguma, Owerri, where five of the twelve victims were pronounced dead, while doctors and nurses fought to save the lives of the remaining seven.
According to Punch, the family's head, who also happened to be one of the victims, is Uche Onyeagucha, the Peoples Democratic Party's senatorial candidate in Owerri zone.
Kingsley, the chief driver, was only identified as a man in his late 40s. A two-year-old toddler, a 12-year-old girl, and another adult are among the other victims.
According to one of the victims' relatives who spoke to the news source, the cause of the occurrence is still unknown to the family and community. He was perplexed as to how a family of 12 could be found comatose in one of the duplex's six rooms.
According to the relative:
"The family's head is Uche Onyeagucha, the PDP senatorial candidate for Owerri zone's chief driver. Kingsley is his name. This morning, he was scheduled to bring his boss to the Sam Mbakwe airport, but he didn't answer his phone calls. His employer also attempted to contact his wife, but received no response. After then, Uche Onyeagucha dispatched his personal assistant to his residence. After all the knocks on the gate, nobody opened it when we arrived. Someone had climbed over the fence and gained entry to the compound.
“When the doors were broken open, the 12 of them discovered that they were trapped in a chamber. They were all knocked out. People gathered when an alert was raised.
“They were brought to the hospital, where five of them, including the family's patriarch, were pronounced dead. Others are hooked up to equipment that keep them alive. We hope they make it to the point where they can tell the truth about what happened. " The chief driver and his family, as well as his wife's siblings and children, were among the 12 people. The death of the two-year-old child is the most painful. What did that helpless kid do? "We believe there has been foul play."
