In a statement released on Friday by his spokesperson, Femi Adesina, Buhari claimed that Most Rev. Okoh's election by the significant Christian body was evidence of his devotion to the church of God both within and outside of Nigeria, of his distinguished career as a Christian leader, and of his steadfast dedication to advancing ecumenism and interfaith dialogue.
The president affirmed the biblical truth that "that they all may be one," while acknowledging the contribution CAN made to promoting religious harmony and unity. He also expressed confidence that the incoming president would continue to provide the church with the necessary leadership (John 17:21a)
Buhari valued the advice and spiritual contributions of Christian leaders to nation building by encouraging, advising, strengthening, correcting, and criticising those in authority. He had pleasant memories of his interactions with the CAN leadership.
He prayed that Archbishop Okoh's tenure in this new stage of his ministry will be successful and he asked the CAN blocs to provide the clergyman with all the assistance he needs to succeed.
He also sent his best wishes for success in his spiritual and worldly endeavours to the departing President, Rev. Dr. Samson Olasupo Ayokunle.
