The Federal High Court in Kano, presided over by Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, has prohibited the Kano State Government from borrowing N10 billion for the installation of CCTV cameras.

Kano First Forum (KFF), which filed a motion exparte on June 27 and was sworn to by the Association's Director-General, Dr. Yusuf Isyaka-Rabiu, issued the order.

The group asked the court to halt the Governor of Kano from borrowing a N10 billion loan on the grounds that he had broken the rules and regulations governing loan transactions through the representation of lawyer Barr. Badamasi Suleiman-Gandu.

The group also claimed that the state government violated the Department Management Office Establishment Act of 2003, the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007, and the Laws of Kano State of 1968 in the lawsuit, which names the governor of Kano State, the attorney general of Kano State, the commissioner of finance in Kano, and the speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly as respondents.

Access Bank, the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Debt Management Office, and the Fiscal Responsibility Commission are additional respondents in the lawsuit.

Justice Liman mandated that the plaintiff serve copies of the ruling and originating summons on the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Debt Management Office, and the Fiscal Responsibility Commission in addition to prohibiting the state government from borrowing the funds.
