Since INEC has refused all requests for it to extend the CVR, the POSN stated that it may "be left with no other option except to seek redress in court."
The threat was made in a statement released in Abuja by Modupe Olufemi-Akodu, Director (Legal/Election Monitoring) of POSN.
"We have repeatedly urged INEC to adhere to the electoral law, which states that voter registration must end 90 days prior to the general elections," she continued. However, it appears that INEC is moving forward with its preparations to suspend the exercise on July 31 despite all of our pleas. Millions of young people who would otherwise be eligible to vote but were unable to register or transfer their cards at this time are believed to be the target of this scheme.
Olufemi-Akodu expressed concern that INEC's actions amounted to voter suppression and were intended to favour one political party over another.
