Residents claimed that the armed men ambushed the troops' vehicle as they were en route to fend off criminal attacks on the communities of Fanda-Haki, Yar Katsina, and Karrakkai.
A villager named Hussaini Ali claimed, "The soldiers were aware of the coming attack on the communities and they chose to move there to avert the attack but the moving trucks of the army suddenly came under fire by the armed criminals."
Residents claimed that the soldiers retaliated and killed many intruders, adding that the soldiers' ferocious firing caused the attackers to flee.
"Thursday is market day in the Bingi hamlet, but because of their fear of the unknown, sellers and buyers have agreed to limit their movements there. This is due to the possibility that the casualties they also sustained caused these armed guys to get angry, Ali continued.
At the time this story was filed, Captain Ibrahim Yahaya, the state's military spokesman, could not be reached for comment since his cell line was off.
