Fear as gunmen abduct the information commissioner of Nasarawa

Yakubu Lawal, the Nasarawa State commissioner for information, culture, and tourism, was taken hostage by gunmen who barged into his home on Monday night and took him to an unidentified location.

The event, which took place in the state's Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area and was met by intermittent shooting, lasted for thirty minutes without assistance from security forces, according to information obtained by INFOGONG.

Gunmen opened fire on the school grounds on Saturday, killing Auta Nasela, a staff member of the Government Science Secondary School in the same LGA, and injuring two other staff members.

Rahman Nansel, the command's police public relations officer, confirmed the occurrence when he said, "On August 15, 2022, at around 8:45 pm, policemen on routine patrol were drawn to the sound of sporadic gunshots in the Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state.

In response, Nasarawa Eggon Division police officers hurried to the location, and CP Adesina Soyemi, the police commissioner, promptly backed up the men with a joint detachment of the Police Mobile Force, the Anti kidnapping squad, Military troops, Vigilante as well as local hunters.

The search and rescue operation is ongoing by the combined team, led by Area Commander, Akwanga Area Command, ACP Halliru Aliyu, to rescue the victim unharmed and arrest the perpetrators of the crime, as it was discovered those unidentified gunmen forced their way into the home of one Hon. Yakubu Lawal Addah while shooting sporadically.

Nansel pleaded on members of the public to get in touch with the command if they had any relevant information that could help the command save the victim or apprehend the suspects.
