In Katsina, bandits kidnap a newlywed couple and kill two vigilantes.

In the Katsina metropolis' Shola Quarters, bandits have kidnapped a newlywed couple, several residents, and two members of a local vigilante group.

Residents claim that bandits entered the area about 1:25 AM and remained there for nearly an hour.

Two of the vigilante members were slain and two others were injured during the confrontation with the bandits, according to one of the sources.

He told how the bandits overpowered the vigilantes, forcing them to flee for their lives.

He added that the wounded were being treated at the hospital and that one of the deceased bodies was later recovered while the other was taken to the hospital where he eventually passed away.

Usman Masanawa, the kidnapped newlywed, and his relative gave an account of how they were taken; according to the relative, when the attackers arrived, the husband, Yusuf Bishir, called to let him know, but there was nothing he could do.

When we arrived there this morning, the robbers had already broken through a wall to gain access to the residence rather than via the front gate, according to Masanawa.

The number of locals kidnapped, he continued, could not be determined, but other locals claimed several homes had been raided and people kidnapped.

When reached, the state's police spokeswoman, Gambo Isa, replied over WhatsApp that officers were investigating the situation and would provide more information later.

In a related development, bandits have abducted 13 individuals from Natsinta hamlet, in Jibia local government region, located a few hundred metres from the army barracks in Katsina.

The bandits had earlier kidnapped 26 individuals, but when they arrived to the location where they had parked their motorcycles, they took 13 of the victims with them and left the rest, according to a local whose uncle and two of his children were taken.
