43 people were kidnapped by suspected bandits last Wednesday when they stormed the Bakiyawa hamlet in Katsina State's Batagarawa Local Government Area and demanded a staggering N250 million as ransom.
The majority of the community's residents, who are peasant farmers and artisans, told Arise TV that they learned about the incident at around 7 o'clock and informed the security personnel. They claim that the bandits operated for more than three hours. During the incident, the bandits killed four people before stealing the victims.
According to eyewitnesses, the police were forced to leave the area during the gunfight because the bandits' weapons were more powerful.
According to reports, the bandits looted some stores, took food, and even some cattle.
One of the locals, Yusuf Naura, claimed that the bandits kidnapped four of his family members, including his daughter, a final-year student at the Federal Government College of Education in Kastina.
Naura said
They called me a day after the incident around 7pm last week Thursday, stating that they are holding 43 people they kidnapped from our community. We checked within our community and found out that truly, more than 43 people are missing. Out of which 11 of them are biologically connected to me.
In order to secure the release of their loved ones from the kidnappers' cave, the grieving family members are currently looking for ways to raise the money.
