In a statement on Friday, September 30, Ahmed urged the prisoners to show up for the ongoing preparatory classes and do their best to earn excellent grades because doing so is crucial to their successful reintegration into society after serving their sentences.
Ahmed urged the candidates to look past their time in prison and see the hope that education offers while stating that the center is renowned for producing candidates with good results.
The prison inmate leader who registered for the exam made a commitment on behalf of the others to put up their best efforts in order to be admitted to study a variety of courses at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
Shehu Ibrahim, the deputy controller of corrections and the official in charge of the Kuje Custodial Center, expressed his gratitude to the non-governmental organizations for contributing their time and resources to the success of the registration.
He also urged the federal government to support efforts to make exams administered by the National Examination Council (NECO) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) free for prisoners, similar to what the National Open University of Nigeria has done.
