According to the Independent National Electoral Commission's schedule for 2023, the council will launch its official campaign on Wednesday with a prayer session and peace walk in Abuja, according to a statement from Bayo Onanuga, the director of media and publicity for the council (INEC).
However, the postponement was announced by the Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong, and the director-general of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Council on Tuesday in Abuja. They claimed that this was done to make room for the addition of more party chieftains to the council.
"Adjustment of calendar of actions earmarked to launch campaign by the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council," reads the statement's headline.
Remember that we had previously scheduled a peace march and prayers on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, to formally launch our campaigns for the 2023 presidential elections?
"We also made it known that the Campaign Council members needed to show up to the Campaign Headquarters on that day to pick up their letters of appointment.
To ensure that everyone is on board before activities formally begin, we have chosen to change the timetable of these activities due to the list's expansion to include more stakeholders and interests within the APC family.
Therefore, the events that were previously scheduled on September 28th will no longer take place.
We realize the sacrifices and understanding of our thronging members who are more than willing to volunteer themselves for this huge duty ahead because we are Nigeria's dominant and most alluring party. Additionally, it demonstrates the deep affection party members have for our candidates.
The announcement of a new date and schedule of events is imminent.
