The 24-year-old guy who had symptoms and ultimately passed away was a confirmed Ebola case, according to the health ministry, in the central Mubende district.
Following an investigation by Ugandan health authorities into six mysterious deaths in the district this month, the WHO's Africa branch confirmed in a statement that the case was of the very uncommon Sudan strain.
According to WHO Africa, eight suspected cases are currently being treated in medical facilities. It also stated that it was assisting Uganda's health authorities with their investigation and sending staff to the affected area.
The highly contagious and fatal Ebola virus includes symptoms such as fever, vomiting, and severe diarrhoea.
There have been several Ebola outbreaks in Uganda, including one in 2000 that claimed hundreds of lives.
