Saraki remarked that the upcoming general election will be a turning point for Nigeria's destiny and that no one or any party should try to undermine the fairness and success of the vote.
This was stated in a statement made by the former governor of Kwara State on Thursday in honour of the International Day of Democracy.
His statement came in response to a report that claimed there was a plot to sabotage the democratic system in order to rig the 2023 elections.
"As we in Nigeria join millions of people around the world in celebrating the #InternationalDayOfDemocracy and against the backdrop of a report that some people are planning to undermine the political process in order to rig the 2023 elections, I must reiterate that for Nigeria's democracy to be sustained, we must operate a system in which accountability, transparency, citizen participation, free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections is encouraged," wrote Saraki.
"The next general elections are a turning point for the future of our nation. Nobody or any group that cares about Nigeria should play about with its success and transparency. People's votes must be taken into account. Because of this, everyone should fight any attempt to rig the elections.
"Let us all remember to play our individual and collective responsibilities to protect and advance the values of democracy and good governance in our society as we reflect on how far we have gone as a nation under democratic government."
