Gunmen attack a checkpoint in Ebonyi, and two police officers are feared dead.
When armed individuals stormed a checkpoint in Ebonyi State, two police officers were presumed dead.


The event occurred on Thursday morning, September 15, 2022, at the boundary between Ezza North and Ishielu local government regions, according to sources who talked with The Nation.


Two police officers were reportedly killed by the attackers during the assault, while others were hurt.


In the course of the incident, the shooters are also said to have set fire to a police Hilux van.


The source reported that "unknown gunmen and men of the Nigerian Police Force engaged in combat this morning at a checkpoint between the boundary of Ndiagu Ogboji and Agba towns in Ebonyi state."


"Unconfirmed accounts state that several police officers were shot and some died, while others were wounded in varied degrees. The police service truck was also burned by the UGM."


Chris Anyanwu, the state's police spokesperson, responded saying he was unaware of the incident's specifics but that a team had been dispatched by the command to investigate.
