Five people were reportedly freed from the hideout of two infamous kidnappers, according to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command.

A Power Link Transit Company bus carrying passengers from Port Harcourt to Uyo was reportedly hijacked by the kidnappers, who then stole and abducted five of the passengers.

According to SP Odiko Macdon, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the kidnappers held the victims captive in the Ikpe Annang woodland in the Etim Ekpo Local Government Area before demanding a N20 million ransom from each of them.

The five abducted victims were brought far into the jungle at Ikpe Annang in the Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, where they were bound with ropes, had their eyes covered, and had twenty million (20 million) dollars in ransom demanded of them apiece.

Acting on reliable information, military personnel and operatives from the Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo divisions stormed the kidnappers' hideout on September 26, 2022. Two of the abductors, named as Thankgod Ezekiel Udo of Ikpe Annang and Imo Okarafor John aka "Nkwokwo," were neutralized while others fled into the river with gunshot wounds.

Miss Blessing Elkanem, age 19, Mr. Kingsley Elkanem, age 23, Mrs. Chioma Gabriella, age 25, Mr. Idorenyin Maurice Inim, age 23, and Mr. Uko Clement, age 39, were among the five victims who were found blindfolded. Additionally, an AK-47 magazine with ammunition was found," he said.

The PPRO also stated that a group that was in charge of the majority of robberies and auto thefts in Uyo Metropolis had been apprehended.
