Japanese emperor his route to London for the funeral of the queen

Monday's formal funeral for Queen Elizabeth II is likely to draw hundreds of international royalty and politicians.

It will be the first international journey for the Japanese emperor and empress since they took the throne in 2019.

They departed from Tokyo's Haneda Airport this morning and will land in the UK later in the day.

The emperor seldom attends funerals in Japan, so the visit is also a break from custom.
