Ogun police apprehend suspect, free kidnap victim
Shey Anafi, who had been kidnapped, was saved by Ogun State Police Command agents, who also detained Ibraheem Abubakar, one of the accused kidnappers, at their hideout.

The hideout was located near the Kara Bridge end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the state's Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.

This information was released in a statement on Sunday by SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state's police public relations officer.

Oyeyemi claimed that the arrest was made on Saturday after his men broke into the suspects' hideout and freed the kidnapping victim, who was a passenger in the car that the gang had targeted.

According to the PPRO, the kidnappers have recently been terrorising motorists and other bystanders along the Kara Bridge end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

According to him, "members of the command, in response to a report submitted at Warewa divisional headquarters by a commercial driver, carried the war to the doorstep of the hoodlums.

The driver claimed that when he approached the long bridge on his way from Ilorin in his Ford commercial with the licence plate LRN 596 ZY and seven people in tow, there was a traffic jam that forced him to take the unpaved access road next to the bridge.

They were assaulted by unidentified gunmen while driving along the aforementioned access road, causing all of the passengers to flee in various directions into the surrounding wilderness.

But when everyone gathered to continue travelling, it was found that Alhaji Sheu Anafi, a traveller from the Okeleele neighbourhood of Ilorin, had been kidnapped by the thugs.

Following the report, the DPO Warewa division's CSP Abdul Fatai Ogunsanya organised a joint operation with the local vigilantes, the safe corps, and OPC members to search the bush for the missing individual.

"Their efforts paid off when the kidnappers' hiding place was discovered and the security personnel engaged them in a gun duel.

"At the conclusion of the encounter, one of the kidnappers, Ibraheem Abubakar, who claimed to be from Kano state's Sabonganmu-Bompai road, was detained while others managed to flee with gunshot wounds differing in severity. The victim, 62-year-old Sheu Anafi, was freed unharmed.

The guy has admitted to being a part of the seven-man gang that has recently been terrorising the length of the long bridge.

Oyeyemi stated that the suspect will be sent right away to the state's Criminal Probe Department for a covert investigation under the direction of police commissioner Lanre Bankole.

"The CP also asked to members of the public, particularly hospitals to alert the police if someone with a gunshot injury is observed in their neighbourhood," he said.
