PDP Slams Buhari Over Performance Claim: "You've Been A Sleeping President"
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disputed President Muhammadu Buhari's claim that he has done "very well" in terms of performance, claiming that he has been a "sleeping president" as Nigeria has regressed on all development indices.

"Nigeria is suffering under the weight of a slumbering president. Funkekeme Solomon, senior political adviser to the PDP vice presidential candidate and governor of Delta State, said this in Asaba. "How can President make such claim when federal universities have been closed for over seven months, when Nigeria has become the poverty capital of the world, when armed nonstate actors are having a free reign unleashing terror on the people."

"The president's self-evaluation reveals that he is unaware of the status of the nation. Solomon said this while participating in a radio phone-in programme in Asaba. "He is not aware his fellow Nigerians are living in abject poverty and deprivation caused by his visionless leadership," Solomon said.

He claimed that Buhari's evaluation of himself amounted to a mockery of Nigerians who had nowhere or no one to turn to.

He asserts that the PDP is poised to save the country from certain destruction.

When questioned about the PDP's ability to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in light of the ongoing conflict between Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, and the party's national leadership, Solomon said that there is no split inside the PDP.

"What is taking place is an illustration of the democratic values that PDP upholds. Governor Wike wants to see some concerns that he strongly feels handled. He is expressing his views within the parameters of the party. To fix every problem, several things are being done. It is now abundantly evident to everyone that the request for Dr. Iyorchia Ayu's resignation could cause further complications and result in needless resignations. This is due to the fact that, in accordance with the party's constitution, Ayu will be succeeded by someone from the North even though he is stepping down," he stated.
