This comes after reports surfaced on Wednesday that unidentified gunmen in the area had killed five troops and two civilians.
In response to the killings that took place in the neighborhood, where the hoodlums ambushed the soldiers while they were performing their regular patrol duties, the military allegedly mobilized troops to the neighbourhood.
According to reports, tension increased when military personnel entered the area and ordered the shopkeepers to close their stores while firing into the air.
Schools in the neighborhood were swiftly closed as parents withdrew their children, causing chaos as everyone scrambled to safety. Within a short period of time, the roadways were completely empty.
The traders were prepared to conduct business for the day, according to a local source, when a group of heavily armed soldiers stormed the market and ordered everyone to pack up and leave. Gunshots were fired into the air to shut down the market.
The source further disclosed that once the busy market turned vacant, the order immediately saw 100% compliance.
When the military attacked the crime scene at around 3:00 pm, a prominent member of the village claimed to journalists that they fired on his people, hurting some of the locals.
"We recognize that they done that in memory of their yesterday killed members. They believe that something similar occurred only yesterday, and today shoppers descended upon the market. All of those who were killed were humans, and their spirits deserved to be treated with some respect, the insider stated.
When reached, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, a state police spokesperson, claimed that the command had not received the information.
Ikenga continued, "Although no arrest has yet been made in relation to the incident on Wednesday, the situation there is calm now that security personnel are on patrol and returning the area to normalcy.
