The Supreme Court dismisses the PDP's petition to zone the presidency to the South East
On Friday, the Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit that sought to force the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to zone its presidential candidate nomination to the nation's South East Geopolitical Zone.

The lawsuit was dismissed by the court on the grounds that it lacked jurisdiction to hear it in a majority decision read by Justice Adamu Jauro.

The lawsuit was brought by Cosmos Ndukwe, a PDP presidential candidate and former deputy speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly.

He had asked for a decree that would force the PDP to adhere to its zoning and rotational policies.

Ndukwe expressly asked the court to issue an order compelling the PDP to choose its presidential candidate in the South East Geopolitical Zone.

Justice Jauro ruled that the lawsuit was not justiciable, citing the fact that political parties must nominate their own members for office.
