Buhari tells Nigerians, "I feel your sorrow."
On Saturday, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), said he understood the suffering of Nigerians brought on by the recent spike in national insecurity.

He did this as he repeatedly assured the populace that his government was working to strengthen the security forces so they could better "handle all forms of security challenges."

This was said by Buhari on October 1, 2022, during his final Independence Day speech to the nation.

"As we continue to de-escalate the security challenges that confronted us at the beginning of this administration, newer forms alien to our country began to manifest, particularly in the areas of kidnappings, molestations, killings of innocent citizens, and banditry, all of which are being addressed by our security forces," the president said.

I understand the suffering that Nigerians are going through, and I can assure you that your tenacity and endurance will not go in vain as long as this administration keeps repositioning and fortifying the security agencies to equip them to handle all kinds of security challenges.

"I met the funding needs of the security agencies at the start of this administration in 2015, and I improved those requirements in my second tenure in 2019, allowing them to overcome security challenges. We'll stay on this course until we see the desired outcomes from our efforts.
