On Friday, October 14, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Controller of Seme Command, Dr. Chukwu Emeka, made the announcement.
Emeka, speaking at a press briefing in Seme, Lagos State, said that the deportees are young Nigerians who claimed to have been duped into leaving the country or who left on purpose in quest of better opportunities.
To quote what he had to say:
Ghana’s Financial and Intelligence Agency accused them of cybercrime but from our preliminary investigation, we discovered that some of them were lured into these criminal activities due to the get-rich syndrome our youths are developing.
“Some of them are victims because they were deceived that they can make money if they leave Nigeria. Unfortunately, they don’t get the actual thing they bargained for in Ghana.
“Further investigation also showed that most of them left the country through illegal routes or through the sea to other West African countries.
Emeka said it was disgusting to see young Nigerians engaged in ungodly activities when they should be nurturing their abilities for the future, and he urged Nigerians to always travel with proper documents and to live and do business according to the law of the place they had travelled to.
