In Lagos, the EFCC re-arrests a father and son for alleged N5.6 billion fraud.
Emmanuel Adewunmi Jayeoba and his son Adewale Daniel Jayeoba were re-arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and appeared before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.


The defendants were re-arrested on a 14-count amended information about money laundering for a total of N5, 697, 029, 685, according to EFCC spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren, who revealed this in a statement on Wednesday, October 12. ( Five Billion, Six Hundred and Ninety –seven Million, Twenty-Nine Thousand, Six Hundred and Eighty- Five Naira)


That between 2019 and 2020, in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, you, Adewale Daniel Jayeoba, and Emmanuel Adewunmi Jayeoba conspired to use an aggregate sum of N5.697,029,685 (Five Billion, Six Hundred and Ninety Seven Million, Twenty Nine Thousand, Six Hundred and Eighty Five Naira), which sum you reasonably ought to have known forms part of your unlawful activity, to wit:


They entered a "not guilty" plea to the crime.


In light of the defendants' pleas, the prosecution's attorney, Chinenye Okezie, requested that the defendants be detained in custody and also urged the court to set a date for their trial.


I.A. Raji, the defendants' attorney, responded by informing the court that Justice Nicholas Oweibo had already granted bail to the defendants.


He did, however, inform the court that the accused were unable to fulfill the bail requirements.


Therefore, the defense attorney requested from the court a quick date for the bail variation hearing.


Justice Aneke set the hearing dates for the bail application and trial as October 17, 2022 and December 6, 2022, respectively.


The defendants were also mandated to remain in prison custody by the judge.
