The Director-General of the NCDC, Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, stated on Tuesday, October 11, that there has been a 47 percent increase in the number of new suspected cholera cases in August epidemiological week 36-39 (4017) compared to July epidemiological week 31-35. He was speaking at a ministerial briefing where he provided an update on COVID-19 response and development in the health sector (2151).
Adetifa added that as of Week 39, there had been 933 confirmed cases of Lassa fever from 25 states, along with 173 fatalities. Ondo, Edo, and Bauchi States accounted for 71% of the confirmed cases.
He added that as of week 39, 234 measles deaths had been reported in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, out of 18,545 confirmed cases (FCT). There were 481 confirmed cases of monkeypox this year out of 1,180 suspected cases, and seven fatalities were reported.
Adetifa added that COVID-19 cases have been declining across several nations, and case trends in Nigeria have changed over time.
