Tobi Amusan has been put forward for the Women's World Athlete award.
Tobi Amusan, the world champion and record-holder in the 100-meter hurdles, has been named one of the ten finalists for World Athletics' Women's World Athlete of the Year award.

In a news release posted on their website on Wednesday, October 12, the athletics organization announced this.

The organization had also stated that a panel of world athletics specialists from each of the six World Athletics continents had chosen the 10 nominees.

The only other nominees from Africa were Amusan and Faith Kipyegon, the reigning Diamond League and World 1500m champion from Kenya.

In advance of the 2022 World Athletics Awards, voting for the World Athletes of the Year will begin this week, according to the statement.

"We are happy to announce the ten nominees for Women's World Athlete of the Year. An international panel of athletics specialists, which included members from each of World Athletics' six continental regions, chose these athletes.

The nominees "represent some of the remarkable achievements achieved at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22, World Athletics Indoor Championships Belgrade 22, one-day meeting circuits, and other events throughout the world," according to a statement from the sport's governing body.

The athletic body added that the top five finalists would be revealed on Monday, October 31. Fans could also cast their votes online through World Athletics' social media platforms.

Fans can vote online via the World Athletics social media platforms, while the World Athletics Council and World Athletics Family will submit their ballots by email. Each nominee will have a unique graphic shared this week on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube; a "like" on Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube, or a retweet on Twitter, counts as one vote.

"The World Athletics Council's vote will determine 50% of the outcome, while the votes of the World Athletics Family and the general public will each determine 25% of the outcome.

"On Monday, October 31, voting for the World Athletes of the Year ends at midnight. Five men and five women will be named as finalists after the voting is over, according to World Athletics.

In the first week of December, the winners will be announced on World Athletics' social media channels.
