Robbers and a fired police officer were burned at the stake in Enugu.
Two men suspected of robbing a POS system in Enugu State on Wednesday were burned to death, and the Enugu State Police Command has confirmed that one of them was a former police officer.

The state's Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani, has denied reports that one of the suspected POS robbers recently burned to death by a mob along Bissala Road, Independence Layout was a serving policeman in New Haven Police Division.

Friday, November 11, 2022, the state's Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, released a statement to our correspondent in which the CP denied the allegations.

According to the command, one of the suspects, identified only as "Ogbobe Benjamin," has been discharged from the Nigeria Police Force as a Police Constable for insubordination for quite some time.

Ordered is a covert investigation into the incident and its participants by the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.

Regardless of the situation, "resorting to self-help to carry out acts of jungle justice in such a manner, without recourse to extant laws and the criminal administration system, is totally condemnable and tantamount to the commission of a crime in itself," the Commissioner stressed.

To prevent the command's efforts to combat crime and criminality in the state, he warned against such heinous and cruel acts, which violate the provisions of the Constitution and other extant laws, especially as it concerns the inalienable rights of the person.

The CP went on to call on all residents to uphold the law at all times and work with law enforcement to counter criminal activity.
